Eat Around the World Challege : Greece
Hi everyone! I'm so excited to share my latest food challenge : Greece! (If you missed my past challenges, check them out here and here!) I'll also be linking up with Anne for her Pin To Present series as well, so check out what other people are trying out this month. If you aren't following me on Pinterest yet, follow here!
I absolutely love Greek food, but have never tried to cook it. In Pittsburgh, we have lots of Greek food festivals every year, as well as Greek vendors at the farmer's market in Market Square every Thursday. The food always appealed to me because it features lots of fresh vegetables and bright flavors. I was so excited to try out some recipes!
First up is a recipe from a fellow Pittsburgh blogger : applesnkale. Jenny was raving about her Greek Salad for a while, and I knew I had to try it out! It turned out great and was a perfect spring/summer side dish. I kept it in my fridge all week and had a bowl with all of my meals. I loved it and will definitely make it in the future (and hopefully get my pictures to look as good as Jenny's!)
Next up was Greek Chicken with Pasta. The recipe was really easy to follow, and it turned out great as well! The addition of the artichoke and feta was delicious. Next time I would add more feta, and add olives as well. It could have used just a bit more flavor.

I wanted to try something a bit more challenging, and made Loukoumades for dessert. It was actually my first time ever frying something, and they turned out pretty well! Even though they don't look as nice as the original, they tasted great (that's what matters, right??). They were light and fluffy on the inside, with a crispy and sweet shell. They were really easy to make as well, just need to work on the shape of them.

Here's a look at my finished plate! We also made some simple hummus on the side. Everything was so good and colorful! Perfect summer food.

Adore Greek Food, but I have to be careful--so much oil and cheese and richness can be very difficult for me. But I love the use of so many fresh herbs and lemon and vegetables and seafood. Bonus points if you are actually on the Aegean. :D
ReplyDeleteThat's true...you have to be very careful! I'm glad you can enjoy some of their foods though! I'm not planning a trip to Greece any time soon, but that would be a dream come true :)
DeleteLove, love, love Greek food! My degree is in history of art and Classical Greece was my concentration. I spent two weeks in Greece in college and I ate a Greek salad everyday.

ReplyDeleteMeant to say I love Greek salads! I need to try this one!
ReplyDeleteYou would love this one! It's so good and easy to make :)
DeleteYour food looks amazing. I'm so surprised that you are getting Dan to try all those different cuisines. He has come a long way from the time when he was a baby and had a very limited palate. I love reading your blog. Your life is so full and busy. And that's a good thing. See you in June. Hugs, mama peg
ReplyDeleteThank you! He'll try some things but not a ton of vegetables. I'll keep trying to get him to eat more :)
Deleteyummmmyyyy i love greek food! my husband is greek so I don't mind eating it all the time ;-) i love all the dishes.. so hard to choose!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! Have you ever been to Greece? I also wouldn't mind eating it more..I'll have to add it to my rotation :)
DeleteI love different cuisines, but my favorite Greek food I baklava! We have a Greek festival every September and I go to the food marketplace and buy baklava. I know I could make it at home, but there are a lot of steps, so I buy it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! I knew it would be really time consuming and I wouldn't end up eating most of it (and Dan doesn't like nuts in food) so it wasn't worth it. I might have to pick some up at the farmer's market today to get my fix :)
DeleteI have not tried Greek food before, but I feel like I would really enjoy it because I feel like it's vegetarian friendly. I live for good Mexican food - homemade, authentic guacamole is my absolute favorite! Hope you have a great Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteI think you would as well! I'm with you on Mexican as well..maybe that'll be my cuisine for June! I could go for some guac right now.. :)
DeleteI love greek food, it's probably my favorite cuisine. Love this!
ReplyDeleteI love it too! Actually got some Greek food at the farmer's market for lunch today :)
DeleteI love Greek food, especially after visiting Greece last summer- hands down my favorite cuisine!
ReplyDeleteAh that's so awesome! I think it's one of my tops as well, but German has to take top spot for me :)
DeleteI love Greek food. So flavorful. It's hard to pick a favorite dish.. I could tear up some spanakopita, pastitsio, olive salads, gyros, slow roasted herbed lamb shanks.. gosh I'm hungry. lol
ReplyDeleteMMM yes!! I actually tried pastitsio for the first time at lunch today! Market Square's farmers market has some great Greek dishes. Yummm
DeleteYummm that chicken pasta looks so good!! What a fun meal! I've tried a little Greek food before, but not too much. I definitely would like to try all of these.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was really good and easy..I'm sure you could customize it as well! Really basic recipe :) Glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteLooks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever tried authentic Greek food before, but everything looks seriously delicious! If I had to pick a favourite cuisine, though, it would probably be Mexican. There's just something about the combination of salsa, guac, beans, and rice or tortillas that makes me weak in the knees.
ReplyDeleteI love this series! And Greece is such a yummy one - anything served with a side of hummus is good with me. Love how colorful your plate turned out with all these good ingredients too. Thanks for sharing!
