Weekend Update : No Plans Edition

Happy Monday everyone!  Did you all have a great weekend?  It was finally a dry weekend in Pittsburgh (and across most of the country as far as I've heard) so I hope everyone got to enjoy the beautiful weather!

As the title suggests, this weekend I had absolutely no plans.  It was great to relax and catch up on some housework (and watch Wimbledon finals of course!!)  Sometimes in the summer it's nice to just chill out and not be rushing constantly.  Hopefully this won't be a boring recap, and I swear I have some fun posts coming up!

As usual, I'll be recapping my weekend and linking up with Katie and Erin!

Friday

Took a walk down to Shadyside and stopped in Athleta, Lululemon and True Runner.  I tried on a ton of clothes and ended up with a pair of run times short.  They're a bit longer than the speed shorts, but are so soft and comfortable.  I love them!
(ignore my awkward hands...whoops!)

I also tried out Appalachian Juice Company!  The juice I got was sweet and spicy- grapefruit, apples, ginger and greens.  Really good, but definitely too expensive for me to become a regular.  That's a treat for sure!

The rest of the day was spent with Dan and Selma enjoying time outside.  The weather was perfect, and everyone was outside!  It was a great evening.

Saturday

Dan and I woke up early to run with the True Runner Run Club!  It was a smaller group than usual (around 15 people), but we each got to take home a free pair of Smart Wool socks.  They feel amazing, so I'm excited to get to try them!

After that, I met my mom on the Northside for some yoga at West Park!  There was a decent-sized crowd, and the instructor was great.  It was a pretty intense session with lots of flowing movements, and I loved it!  It reminded me of my Group Centergy class.

Next I had to run some errands in the North Hills.  I haven't been to Target in a while, so I had to make a stop there, as well as JoAnn's and Ulta!  After all the shopping this weekend, I definitely need to freeze my credit cards for a while.  Time to bust out that budget worksheet!

Sunday

I slept in on Sunday, and met my friend at Mellon Park for a free concert!  We're both huge classical music lovers, so I was excited to find out about Bach, Beethoven and Brunch.  Every Sunday at 10:30, a different group plays for an hour and a half while the crowd enjoys the sunshine and some brunch.  There were a few vendors there, but we brought our own food.  It was a great way to spend some time outside enjoying great music and the great weather!

The group playing was called Aeolian Winds, and they were amazing.  They played a mix of famous music scores- from Let it Go to John Williams classics- as well as longer pieces.  It was a great event, and if you like free concerts I recommend checking it out!

This was a great low-key weekend!  I've been doing a lot of traveling this summer, so it was nice to stay in Pittsburgh for the weekend without a thing to do.  I also got to check out a few free summer activities that the city offers, and I loved it!

Does your city or town host any free events during the summer?
What did you do this weekend?

  1. We actually JUST had a free outdoor symphony concert where they performed TV/movie hits! We heard scores from The Lord of the Rings to Titanic to TV jingles like the Jetsons!

  2. This weekend was a no-plans weekend either. I think people were recovering from the 4th, but I still got things done, usually at the spur of the moment.

  3. Great that you found a pair of shorts! I love that print--it will go with a lot. A bunch of greyhound owners will sometimes have meet-ups at the Bach, Beethoven & Brunch, but Django is more of a "let's explore" than a "let's hang out" dog, so I haven't joined them but I love the idea!

    1. Same with Selma! She would never sit there and enjoy the show..she would want to sniff every inch of the park and visit all the people. Sadly she had to stay home :( It was super hot too so she would have been miserable!

  4. I would enjoy the classical music brunch! It's too hot to have things like that around here in the summer. I love the print on your shorts. Very cute. Ulta is a favorite store for me to stock up on essentials. Have a great week.

  5. Such a relaxing weekend! Any weekend that ends with a new pair of Lulu shorts is a good weekend in my opinion! I'm obsessed with the speed shorts. Can never have enough. My weekend was spent at the beach reading. It was perfect and I was finally able to get some much needed vitamin D! Hope you have a fabulous Monday : )

    1. Haha you're absolutely right...Lulu makes everything better. I love speed shorts as well but their selection wasn't the best. These are a great alternative! Enjoy your week Jamie!

  7. Oh, your weekend sounded great! We have this thing where our town puts on a movie outside for all the kids for free every Friday night for the summer. It's pretty awesome. We haven't made it out to one yet this year but we will go!
