Wednesday Reviews : Mascara
Happy Wednesday, and welcome back to another Wednesday Reviews post! I've been skipping these for the past few weeks in favor of #WIAW, but today I wanted to do a quick review of a recent Sephora purchase- the Lash Stash to Go!
I absolutely love buying gift sets in the Sephora Favorites collection. These are collections of different products that are usually in a trial size. There are so many fun sets to try, which you can check out here. I especially love the sets that they come out with around the holidays! They make terrific gifts, or a special treat for yourself.
A few months ago, I purchased the Lash Stash to Go kit, which contained 5 mini mascaras along with a voucher for a full-sized mascara of your choice. It's a fantastic deal, and I love trying out new products with no risk!
I'll briefly talk about each mascara, and then let you know which one I'll be picking up in full size!
So far, I'm loving the Tarte and Lacome mascaras. Both of them are perfect for an everyday work look, but can also be built up for weekends or nights. I'm still deciding which one to pick, but I'm leaning towards Lacome simply because of the price.
What's your favorite mascara?
Have you tried any of these? What are your thoughts?

This was the first "tubing" mascara that I've tried, and I was a bit nervous to try it out. I've heard horror stories of tubes falling out and getting in contacts. This one was decent and I had no problems with it. It also didn't clump at all, but didn't seem to have any "special" qualities.Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara
Full Size Price - $22
I'm usually a fan of Josie Maran products, but this one was a miss for me. It seemed to be too wet and smudged all over my eyes. The formula was really hydrating though, and didn't seem to damage my lashes at all. I also loved the super black color, but ultimately this didn't work for me.Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
Full Size Price - $27.50
This mascara is beautiful! It does a great job of curling the lashes as well as keeping them separated. It also adds the perfect amount of length and volume, and also builds up really nicely. Definitely a splurge of a mascara, which makes this kit well worth the price!Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
Full Size Price - $23
I've mentioned before that this is one of my favorite mascaras, but it definitely takes a bit of work to use it. It tends to clump up my lashes quite a bit, so I always have to use a metal comb to make it look a bit better. Although it takes a ton of work, I always like how the mascara ends up looking, especially for a date or night out.Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes 4-in-1 Statement Mascara
Full Size Price - $23
The brush is great at combing through the lashes and getting out every clump. It's a great every day mascara because it doesn't add too much volume or length, but made my lashes look a lot better! So far, I'm loving the Tarte and Lacome mascaras. Both of them are perfect for an everyday work look, but can also be built up for weekends or nights. I'm still deciding which one to pick, but I'm leaning towards Lacome simply because of the price.

I wear Dior Iconic or Guerlain (just bought a new one from them, forget what it's called though!). I have also used a Clinique one which is surprisingly good too!
ReplyDeleteOhh I haven't tried any of those brands before! Thanks for the suggestions :)
DeleteI wear maybelline volume express, love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my favorites as well! Oldie and goodie
DeleteI have yet to find my holy grail for mascara. I've tried Buxom, Dior, Better than Sex and a few others from Sephora. I think I tried a deluxe sample of that Lancome one at one point, I can't remember what I thought about it though. Maybe I need to give it another go.
ReplyDeleteI found Better than Sex to be way too clumpy and flaky. I figure if I am going to spend $20+ on mascara it better be damn near perfect.
I agree about BTS. I think it looks gorgeous but takes a lot of work! I didn't find mine to be flaky luckily, but it definitely is clumpy!
Deletei have only tried the better than sex mascara - i like it, but like you said it takes a lot of work and i don't particularly like using it for everyday, but for nights out it's pretty good. wait, so you buy the gift set and then you get a voucher for a full size? that is amazing. i will need to check that out next time. i've really wanted to try the tart and lancome ones!
ReplyDeleteYes! It's such a great deal! They offer it every few months with different brands. I hope you can try it out some time!
DeleteThe only mascara I've ever worn was the Bobby Brown mascara (don't ask me the name because I am NOT a makeup girl!) Haha. I want to start trying out some products as right now, all I do in the morning is wash my face.... 28 going on 10....
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I wish I wasn't into makeup..I would have a lot more money now!
DeleteMy current favourite is the haute and naughty mascara by MAC. I've tried a few other brands and keep coming back to it. That sample pack sounds awesome! I would love to try five different mascaras. I don't wear make up every day, mostly out of laziness, but if I were to have a daily make up routine, it would involve eyeliner and mascara. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I haven't tried any MAC mascaras! I'll have to check that one out. My daily routine is just concealer and mascara usually...less is so much easier!
DeleteGreat review. I've always worn Mary Kay mascara but just ordered one of those beauty boxes so I am anxious to see if I get a new one in there (it's time..lol).
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope you'll do a review of the box :)
DeleteI agree about the Josie Maran mascara. There is only one mascara that doesn't smudge under my eyes, and I think I've tried every mascara out there. It's Tarte's waterproof version of the one you reviewed (Lights, Camera, Splashes.) It lasts all day and night, looks great on, doesn't smudge, and is very easy to remove with a bit of coconut oil, my makeup remover.
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about that! I usually don't have problems with smudging (partially because I don't wear it on my lower lashes usually) so it was weird that this one did! Coconut oil is such a great makeup remover :)
DeleteGreat review! I've heard good things about the Too Faced. Also, Benefit roller lash!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh..roller lash is amazing! I tried a sample and loved it. I reminds me too much of Clump Crusher though, so I'll stick with the lower priced one!
