Monthly Goals : October
Did another month seriously come and go already? I don't know about you, but September just felt like a continuation of August. It was hot and humid, and I'm definitely not feeling in the fall mood yet. I haven't even craved any pumpkin spice lattes or hot drinks in general, which is unheard of for me! Maybe it's because I've been out of school for a few years, but I just don't feel in the spirit yet. Hopefully that will change soon!
My favorite part of flipping over to a new month is seeing how people did on their monthly goals. I love going back and seeing what all I did in the month, and rewarding my accomplishments! I mentioned last month that I wanted to change things up and come up with some different goals from myself. Read on to see how I did with my goals, and what I'm planning for October!
- Start swimming. Yes! I started going to the gym to swim once a week, and so far I'm loving it. Luckily, my blogging buddy Anne also recently started swimming, and we're holding each other accountable to train. It's great to chat with someone also starting off from no experience, and share our frustrations and triumphs. In case you missed it, she wrote about swimming as exercise, and it has lots of helpful tips!
- Go for a hike with Dan and Selma. Yes! We took a trip to Ohiopyle to hike. Check out my post here for more pictures and highlights from our trip.
- Cook Caribbean food. Yes! I didn't dedicate a post to this, but I did make a Caribbean salad and chicken. They were both so good and relatively easy to make (not to mention made lots of yummy leftovers), so I would recommend both recipes!
- Hang all of my paintings and other photos. Yes! A few weekends ago I tackled this project, and I'm loving how our living room and kitchen look now.
- Cross Train two times per week. Yes! I got in lots of different exercises this month, so I was really happy with my progress. Here's a better look at my training for the month of September:
As you can tell, this was a great month for me! I think this may be the first time that I hit all of my goals. I'm hoping this momentum carries over to October! Here is what I'm hoping to achieve:
- Cross off one item on my 30x30 list. I haven't made any progress on this list in the last few months. I have a few things planned for October, so I'm hoping that at least one item will be crossed off this month. If you're interested in seeing my list, click here!
- Take a sewing e-course. Going along with my 30x30, I want to learn how to sew. I saw that a beautiful mess offers e-courses, and one is on sewing! I purchased the class and I'm hoping to get through a few lessons this month.
- Set a new PR. I have three races in October, and I'm really hoping for a new PR from one of them!
- Complete the 30-Day Food Dare. I'll devote a post talking about this, but I'll be taking the challenge and work on cleaning up my diet for the next 30 days!
- Cook Chinese food. Next up in my culinary challenge is China, and I'm so excited. I'm thinking about making this, this, this, and this. Who's coming over for dinner?
October is going to be a really busy month for me with lots of travel planned and a few big races. I decided to keep my goals on the lighter side just so I'm not stressed out all month! I can't wait to share all the fun things going on as they happen, so make sure you stay tuned this month!
Your turn...what is your biggest goal of the month?
What was a highlight for September!

I really like your recap about your training. The infographic is so neat! It sounds like it was a good month for you and congrats on the Pr.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hollie! Glad that you like it :)
DeleteI just absolutely love how you set out monthly goals and then do them. Most people just make lists and don't put them into action! You're so great. I love how diverse your goals are too. I feel like I already do so much, that my life is so full. But maybe there are little mini goals that I could make for myself and do each month. You've got me thinking!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Suzy! That means a lot :) You do a lot already so I can't imagine adding more, but I bet you could pick a goal or two to focus on each month!
DeleteCongrats on an awesome September, lady! You kicked some serious butt with those goals. Good luck with your October ones as well! Hope it starts to feel more like fall for you soon :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! I'm up in Central PA today and it definitely feels like fall up here, so maybe we'll get it soon :)
DeleteI love the idea of tallying up and categorizing runs/workouts! I think I'll try something like that for October. I've been working on my 2015 goal of running 1000 miles. I got way behind in May and June due to a relocation, but I signed up for a half marathon in October that is getting me caught up. So one of my mini goals (Oct. goal) is to run at least 105 miles. I also need to add in weight training, so that's on my list too. Thanks for the great idea! PS: that chicken looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI have that goal as well, and was majorly slacking in January and February. I've been trying to catch up ever since then, but it's tough! Good luck with your goals!!
DeleteI've tried Chinese food in my crock pot, but it didn't taste like I thought it would. Maybe I need to try a different recipe and move to the stove next time.
ReplyDeleteHmm what recipes have you tried in the past? I'm curious to see how mine will turn out..I love Chinese food so I hope it tastes good!
DeleteYay for hitting your goals! Good luck with your October races. My goal for this month is to rock the Chicago Marathon next week and start trail running again with hopes of a trail race in November.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And good luck to you in Chicago...that race is going to be fun :)
Deleteum, i am coming over for dinner! yum. i love chinese food.
ReplyDeletei had no idea a beautiful mess offered sewing e courses. i will definitely sign up for that if you enjoy it!
You are most definitely invited :)
DeleteAck! The new month really caught me off guard. Guess its time for me to think about goals too! You did great with running last month, but the one I'm most impressed with us hanging pictures. I so need to do that! Happy October!
ReplyDeleteI bet coming back from vacation you aren't ready for a new month! Can't wait to see your goals for October and your race :)
DeleteRay and I planned to go to Charleston in September for a mini vacacy, but then it was OCTOBER. And we never went haha. I know how you feel!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to a calligraphy workshop later this month. So cool that you are swimming once a week! I tried that and it lasted for maybe three weeks hehe.
I do that all the time..plan things but never actually end up doing it. That's why I have to write things in my planner- then I'm more likely to do it!
