Top Five Friday #46

Happy Friday everyone!  Today I have a beefed up Top Five post for you all.  I feel like I've been skimping on these posts lately, so I made sure that this one is packed full of all my favorite products, some recent outfits, new songs, and TV Shows.

I've got it all today, and I hope this makes up for the past few weeks!  As I mentioned yesterday, Dan and I finally got our offer accepted on a house, so the past few weeks have been really hectic.  Now that all of our applications and inspections are done, it should (hopefully) be smooth sailing from here!  Wish us luck, and now let's get to the favorites!

Empty Products

In the past, I've dedicated entire blog posts to reviews on empty products (you can see them here).  I know that some of you don't like beauty-focused posts, so instead of completely nixing these reviews, I wanted to incorporate them into my favorites!

I'm going through lots of products now that I'm on a spending freeze, so I thought it would be (hopefully) interesting and helpful to review my empty products each week.  Today is going to be a bigger set since these are all products that I was waiting to write a whole post about, but in the future I might only have 2 or 3 products a week.

Laneige BB Cushion: I kept this at work for an easy way to touch up throughout the day.  BB Cushions are really popular so I'm excited to try a new brand next since this one is a bit expensive.

IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush: such a great product.  Super hydrating and a pretty rosy color that stains your lips.

Loreal Infallible Makeup Extender: my favorite setting spray.  I use this every day as a last step for my makeup routine!

EOS Lip Balm: I've been hearing a lot of horror stories about EOS but luckily I've never had an issue!
Bite Beauty Lipstick: by far my favorite lipstick brand.  Beautiful colors, really creamy and lasts for eva.

PIXI Endless Silky Eye Pen: I used this to tightline my eyes and it worked great!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: this is a great concealer, but is similar to Maybelline Fit Me concealer for a fraction of the price, so I won't repurchase this in the future.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: love this formula for intense lashes, but hate the name.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner: my favorite liner!  Beginner friendly and makes a perfect line and wing.

Olly Biotin Vitamins: these tasted great, but I couldn't tell any difference in my hair, skin or nails.  I found that Biotin Bursts worked a lot better and were also delicious!

Coconut Oil: I use coconut oil for everything- makeup remover, moisturizer, shaving cream, cooking oil, and even give some to Selma!  This one comes in a huge container and is really inexpensive.

John Frieda 7 Day Volume: absolutely love this product.  Makes my hair smell and look great.

EOS Lotion: decent lotion and I love the design.  Perfect for throwing in your purse.

Trader Joes Shave Cream: I loved the formula, but hated the scent.

Glam Glow Mask: pro tip: order this mask on Amazon.  It's a lot cheaper!  This mask is absolutely incredible and makes my skin look perfect.  Not sure what magic is in here, but I love it.

Prada Candy Perfume: my favorite perfume!  If you're looking for a sweet, feminine scent this is the one.

Caress Love Forever Body Wash: this is seriously the best body wash I've ever used.  The scent is amazing and lingers on your body all day long!

Outfits

blazer: The Limited x top: Ann Taylor (similar) x skirt: The Limited x shoes: Target

blazer: Forever 21 (similar) x dress: Old Navy x shoes: Target

Songs

I should really include the entire new album by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis because it's all so good.  I especially like this song because it tells a story and lets you see in the mind of a star and what all they go through.  It's really interesting and a catchy song as well!

I'm a huge fan of musicals, so I was really excited to listen to this soundtrack after hearing all of the hype about it!  I heard that it was really good (it even won a Grammy) but didn't know the premise or genre.  I was completely shocked when I turned it on and it was a rap musical about Alexander Hamilton!  It is so, so good and I think everyone would enjoy it, whether or not you're a musical theatre fan. Come on, George Washington in a rap battle with Charles Lee is just something you have to hear.

I think this is the perfect summer song, or a great song to get you ready for the weekend!

If you like EDM and Star Wars, this is the song for you!  Baauer takes one of the most iconic songs from Star Wars (the Cantina song) and flips it on its head with this catchy song.  I love it!  There's an entire album like this called Star Wars Head Space if you want more!

This is one of the most catchy and annoying songs out there!  I can't stop playing it but it sticks in my head all day long.  Now, no matter what I'm doing I sing this song and change up the words.  If I'm baking something, I'll say "bake bake bake bake bake..." or if I'm cleaning I'll sing "clean clean clean clean clean...".  You get the picture!  Dan hates it but I think it's hilarious!

TV Shows

American Idol - I'm still completely in love with Dalton and La'Porsha.  I'm so glad that they're both getting such good feedback and seem to be everyone's choice for front runners!  I'm also loving MacKenzie and Trent.  My favorite thing in a performer is when they take a well-known song and make it their own.  I feel like these four do that better than any other people on the show, so I'm always excited to see what they'll do next!

HTGAWM - I'm finally caught up, and I'm loving this season.  It has a different feel to me (particularly the first episode had a different style from the previous seasons).  It'll be interesting to see all of the story lines develop- particularly the big cliffhanger after last week's episode!!

Fuller House - I really want to like the remake of one of my favorite shows, but I don't.  I will say that I didn't like the first episode and it's starting to get a bit better (thanks to all the guest stars and a story line emerging).  I'm not sure if it's because it's over-the-top cheesy, or all the screams anytime one of the original stars enters the scene, but it feels more like this should have been a reunion special than an entire series!  Plus, it was just announced that Netflix is buying another season- maybe the Olsens will join the party!  Either way, I'm still planning on finishing the series even though I'm not a huge fan.

The Bachelor - I don't want to give any spoilers, but what a crazy episode!  I feel like all three girls are going to be really hurt when they watch this episode.  It'll be interesting to see what happens next week with the final two and if anything changes at the finals.  Could we potentially have another Mesnick-switcharoo ending?!

Top Chef - Does anyone else watch this show?  I've always loved cooking competitions and Top Chef might be my favorite of them.  I'm really liking this season and there are so many chefs that I enjoy so far.  My favorites were Kwame and Karen, so I'm a little sad that they're both gone.  Now I'm rooting for Jeremy and Isaac!

  1. Lol I was totally thinking the same thing about the Bachelor. I agree, definitely think the women will be a little hurt when they watch this episode back. I'm wondering if he calls his mom or what?! You know how they like to take the clips out of proportion. Did you see Ally Federick is preggers? I love the Bachelor family. They're so cute. I'l also watching Fuller House and American Idol (via Netflix and Hulu) so I'm not completely caught up yet. Have a good weekend!

  2. Wow, you just gave me an education in beauty, fashion and pop culture! I so rarely wear makeup that I often have to throw away nearly full containers just because they are embarrassingly past the "get rid of" guidance. Like, seriously, I still have the same tube of lipstick as I wore to my wedding - in 2007. And that's my go to lipstick if I'm going to wear any. As far as TV, my hubby and I are big into Food network - Chopped and Cuttthroat Kitchen. And we started this season of Survivor as well. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your lists!

    1. I sometimes wish I wasn't as into makeup because it gets expensive FAST. And you only have one face so how much makeup does one person really need!? hah! I'm trying to cut back though!

  3. I watched Fuller House and while I enjoyed seeing the reunion + the acting of Max, I thought some of their plot lines were a little forced...trying to be too nostalgic. I've been enjoying the Bachelor and I was surprised with who he sent home before the final two. Top Chef, Kwame was also one of my favorites, his new restaurant in DC is opening soon, hope to go there.

    1. I agree with you. I will say it's getting better past episode 4 or so. I'll have to visit DC to go to his restaurant :)

  4. Love Top Chef. I have watched it since the beginning! I don't watch the Bachelor, never have, never will. I did watch Rock of Love, though :D (back in the day). I'll watch anything on Bravo, even if I don't like it, let's be honest!
Love the idea of looking at your empties--will show you what you really use, plus make sure you use up everything! PS I have some awesome news that I will text you about later (if you don't text me first!)

  5. Loooove Top Chef! My husband and I are fanatics and always seek out former winners restaurants when we are traveling.. if you watched last year and remember Nick who won- he has the top restaurant in Philly right now- so good! Other show I'm obsessed with right now- American Crime Story! BTW congrats on the house- fingers crossed for smooth sailing!

  6. I really like the EOS chapstick too. And luckily I have not have any problems with it either. My only complaint is the way it's shape. Definitely not fitting that in a wristlet. I have only watched the first episode of Fuller House. And I enjoyed it. Of course it's not like they way we enjoyed it before but probably bc we are all grown up. But we are still fans so we will watch it.

  7. First of all, you are ROCKING the blazer in those outfits. I always feel awkward when I wear one because I'm not used to it, but as always you're inspiring me to try it out! Also love hearing your beauty recommendations. As someone who is far from being a beauty and style maven I really love hearing what's working for other people!

  8. Yeah, love this recap! Glad you are not nixing the beauty product reviews! You can't please everyone with your content choices 100% of the time and as you know I've gotten at least one great new product recommendation from you! (7 Day Volume for anyone else reading and wondering.) And yesss to your work outfits this week! So polished and professional and fit you like a dream!

  12. I've been watching the Bachelor too and I was really surprised by the last episode! I didn't see that coming. Can't wait for the finale! And I might try that Kat Von D liner - my old favorite has been discontinued so I'm looking for a new one. Happy weekend!

  13. Yay for getting an offer accepted! To be honest, I found the whole inspection and paperwork (THE PAPERWORK. SO. MUCH. PAPERWORK.) to be more hectic than finding the darn house, but I also had a newborn - we moved in when Ryan was 5 weeks old and our realtor had to hold and calm him while we signed the closing paperwork the day we got the keys. Hopefully is goes super smooth for you guys!

    1. We're done with all the inspection stuff now thankfully! That might have been more stressful for sure. Sounds like your process was super tough so hopefully I won't have screaming babies to deal with haha!

  14. I can't wait to try that Kat Von D liner! I am hopeless with liquid eyeliner! I've heard good things about the John Frieda 7 Day Volume, I think I'll have to pick it up on my next target run. I am slightly obsessed with your work outfits. I love the pop of color the blazers give to the outfits! I have been listening to "Don't Let Me Down" by The Chainsmokers ft. Daya.

  15. Awesome striped dress! I also found the John Freida 7 Day volume from your last post about it, and really like it, so thanks!

  16. Who doesn't like your beauty posts? THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE. I have the Kat Von D eyeliner now and I love it too! I still love my Stila pen though. You should try it. They're a close tie. Stila is a tiny bit softer and therefore more forgiving. And the setting spray is perfect. It took me a while to find it but I'm glad I finally did. I'm coming back to this post in my hand when I'm at the store next!

    1. I'm glad you like them! Everyone has different tastes so that's fine with me. I think I've tried the Stila before and liked it. Anything with a thin tip that helps me not make a mess is good for me :)

  17. I love Rihanna's song Work too! I feel like I barely can understand what she's saying in that song sometimes haha. The Bachelor this week was interesting for sure! Did you listen to the Here to Make Friends podcast this week too? I loved Emily Maynard so I was glad she was on it!

  18. I'm so glad I saw your tip about the NARS concealer and how there is a similar one by Maybeline! I have been using the NARS one and like it a lot but will have to try out the drugstore choice too. Also the Bachelor was on my Friday favorites too and I wonder after the previews if there will be a Mesnick ending again.

  19. i haven't watched tv in ages.. well, besides hgtv. i did watch a few episodes of scream queens the other day but haven't felt the urge to watch the rest. better than sex is my fave mascara right now, the name is silly but it doesn't bother me lol. 'they're real' annoys me more because yeah, of course they are real and they look like crap and i can't wash it off.... i might be the only one who hates that mascara lol. congrats on the house, fingers crossed for smooth sailing!

  24. Congratulations on the house! Love those bite duos-- I need to use mine more often, and I've heard good things about that setting spray! Love your outfits-- the Old Navy dress is so cute! I'm going to download the Hamilton soundtrack-- we want to see it so bad, though I doubt that will ever happen because of the ticket cost, but the soundtrack might be the next best thing. Kwame was our favorite on Top Chef too-- sad he's gone, but I almost feel like it was planned because there is no way he could really think it was okay to use pre-cooked waffles at this point in the competition, right???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you Carly! Glad to hear we have so many similar favorites :) I agree about the pre-cooked waffles. It seems like all these shows frown on using something pre-made (they did something similar on Masterchef when someone used a sauce in a jar instead of making their own). Disappointing!

  26. I love your outfits!! So cute! I need to try that Loreal makeup spray. I love Fuller House, perhaps based on nostalgia alone. Sure I agree that it is cheesy but I guess I am too haha. I haven't picked back up with How to Get Away With Murder since it came back from break. I don't mind watching it but my husband hates all the back and forth time jumps and gets confused about what is going on and then I have to miss things to tell him and I think we will wait til summer when we can watch the whole rest of the season to finish it lol. Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Nadine! I generally like cheesy shows but it just seemed like all the actors were really rusty and the lines were forced. Definitely got more natural and a lot better as the show went on which I'm happy about!

  27. I've watched one episode of Fuller House and I must say I was overwhelmed with the cheese factor. I want to watch more but I'll have to wait till my hubs isn't home. He was not a fan! Thanks for linking up to High 5 Friday!

  31. A lot of my friends love using coconut oil for cosmetic purposes but I haven't found my need for it yet! I hadn't heard anyone using it as shaving cream, but I bet that works really well. I'm kind of with you on Fuller House! I really didn't like the first episode and some are entirely too much for me, but it's almost like I'm getting attached to the characters again so I keep watching it!

  34. Horror stories of EOS? What ? You have to tell me!! My son and I love their products, we each have two lip balms!

I love the Caress Body wash too! I stacked up on it last week!

I'm slowly watching Fuller House, but it's hard to find substance in it after watching an Episode of Breaking Bad... but I LOVE Kimmie!! total girl crush for me! I think DJ and Stephanie are trying too hard!

Right now I'm totally digging Tragos de Amargo Licor by La Santa Cecilia featuring Enrique Bunbury... but there very little Bunbury could do and not have my full attention!
