Top Five Friday #48

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope that you're all ready and excited for the weekend.  I have a bunch of favorites to share with you today, so let's get to my Top Five Friday!

Pittsburgh Bicentennial

On March 18, 1816, Pittsburgh was incorporated as a city by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  That makes today her 200th birthday!  There are a lot of celebrations and events to commemorate this historic occasion throughout the entire year.  Today, a time capsule will be opened to celebrate Incorporation Day.  I'm pretty excited to see what's inside.  You can check out my previous posts about Pittsburgh here!

Case App Phone Case

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Case App to design my own phone case.  I was really excited because I was in serious need of a new case (my current one is so beat up and chipped that it's probably doing more harm than good to my phone), and I wasn't finding any designs out there that I really liked!  With Case App, I could upload my own pictures and add text really easily, then the phone was delivered to me within a week!

I decided to use a picture from my trip to Mallorca last year and added the definition of wanderlust very subtly in the clouds, and I love how it turned out.  I ordered the extra protection tough case, which has a layer of silicone and a hard case to really protect your fragile phone!  I absolutely love it!

Bullet Journaling

Last week, Emma shared a post on how to start a bullet journal.  This was a term that I've heard before but really had no clue what it was.  I pictured a journal just filled with bulleted points, and didn't understand the draw.  Man- was I wrong!  I did some research (and basically stalked the Boho Berry Instagram for inspiration) and have developed my own bullet journal.  To say I'm obsessed is an understatement!

The products that I've been using are the Leuchtturm Medium Hardcover Journal, Tombow Dual Markers, and Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens.

Blogging Sheroes Interview

Speaking of Emma and JW's blog...I was so honored when they approached me about a series they have about their blogging "she"roes.  First of all, it was so unexpected and humbling that they would consider me in that category, and I was more than happy to participate.  Second, you may have heard me mention their blog numerous times before since it's one of my favorites, but if you haven't checked them out now is the time.  My interview went up yesterday on their blog and I would love it if you would check it out and tell them I said hi!

Food

My goal recently has been to use up as many items as possible in my pantry and freezer before we move.  I came across this recipe which would use a remarkable number of canned foods that I had on hand, and didn't require me going to the store at all, so I figured I would give it a try.  The ingredient list seemed so random that I figured it would be disgusting, but it turned out to be incredible!  I've been eating this for dinner all week because it makes so much, and I'm going to be making this in the future as well.  It was really easy to throw together and it tastes unbelievably good.

I also decided to make brownies to use up some pantry supplies!  These were absolutely delicious and really fudgy.  I took them into work and everyone seemed to really like them!  I do think that they are a bit too sweet, so next time I might adjust the ingredients a bit and not put as much sugar in!

  3. Congrats on your interview! Write the blog you want to read...off to remember that!

As far as using things up, I use http://www.supercook.com, or you can Google for sites like it. You can plug in what you've got & it will recommend recipes that use those things up.

Honestly, I usually toss most things into soup or some sort of sauce over rice or pasta. & before one move I had some adventurous friends over for a clear the pantry potluck & made a bunch o' random stuff with what was left. It was surprisingly fun.

  9. Your phone case turned out so good-- love that you can use your own photo and personalize a quote. I'm slightly obsessed with looking at bullet journals on instagram & pinterest, but I haven't started one yet-- I don't think my handwriting is neat enough, but I love the idea of starting one. Love all three of your outfits too-- the scarf is so pretty & definitely screams springtime :)

Congrats on your interview! Great pic, too.

I had never heard of bullet journaling. It's still not clear to me exactly what it is but it seems like it'd be right up my alley...although I can already tell I don't have good enough handwriting or drawing skills to be good at it :) Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Hanna! Bullet Journaling is not an exact science or anything..you can do with it as you please! It's mostly a blank canvas to organize things to make sense in your life. I love how there's no structure!
