Weekend Highlights
Hi everyone and Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend and Easter holiday. Dan and I spent the weekend in Carlisle with his family to celebrate his birthday, so I wanted to give a little recap of what we did! My week of running was boring and mostly recovering from my half marathon, so I thought it would be more exciting to talk about my fun weekend. Enjoy!
The weekend was all about dogs! Dan's dad has a few acres of land, so Selma and her best friend Lily ran all around. The weather was absolutely perfect all weekend, so we spent a lot of time outside with them.
Happy dog = Happy life :)
How adorable is Dan's mom's pitbull!? I love him!
We took a trip down to Gettysburg to check out the museum and some battlefields. I also got to see part of the marathon race course! It was so beautiful down there.
So many open fields!
In the museum, we watched a short film about the Civil War and went into a room that had a 360 degree view of the battle grounds. This is actually the largest oil painting in North America! It was so incredible to be surrounded by such a powerful image. You actually felt like you were in the scene because there were real props set on the ground to make the image appear 3D.
The amount of detail in this painting is insane!
Later that night we went cosmic bowling which was a lot of fun. I'm not very good at bowling but Dan and his dad are amazing. They both crushed me but I had fun singing and dancing to all the old rock music!
We also went to a Hershey Bears game! We bought two sets of seats and swapped in between periods with Dan's dad and brother. Our first seats were in the second row which was crazy to be that close to the action:
The other seats were on the other side of the ice and about halfway up:
It was a great game and went into a shootout! I love overtime and shoot outs because they're so intense, so I was so excited. We ended up winning!
Overall, it was such a fun weekend. It was great to just relax and do all of Dan's favorite things to celebrate his big day. I couldn't ask for more!
How was your weekend?
What does a perfect day look like for you?
Have you ever been to old battlefields?

I think Lily was a model in another life...she's always ready for the camera!

I've never been to Gettysburg, but it's not that far from D.C. I LOVE your dog pictures. You can't help but smile at a happy dog!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cute little town!
DeleteI've only been to Gettysburg once to drop our daughter off at camp. However, it looks like a very nice place. Shootouts are always a really fun way to end a hockey game, glad your team won!
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice!
DeleteI LOVE ICE HOCKEY. Watching it in person is the best. you know I love the fights :D
ReplyDelete:) That's one of my favorite parts too!
DeleteI'm glad you had such a great Easter weekend and that Dan enjoyed his birthday! Mark and I did some fun things with my family like relaxing in the backyard in my parents garden, cooking a really good dinner, and he surprisingly even went on a run with me (haha TWO miles!!!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing Easter!
DeleteIt looks like you had a great weekend! So many cute dogs!!
ReplyDeleteThey're all SO cute!
DeleteOur dogs are very photogenic too! I went to a Hershey Bears game the other mth and it was my first hockey game. Even went into overtime and the Bears came out ahead.-L
ReplyDeleteYay Bears!
Deletethere's a place in atlanta called the cyclorama that reminds me of this--until 2004 it was the largest oil painting in the world. but it's civil war and it rotates just like this! love the pup pics :)
ReplyDeleteThis place was also called the cyclorama! It might be the same painting :)
Deleteand I hate the shoot outs! I miss the way overtime used to be - I can't handle the pressure of a shoot out and I also don't think it's the way the games should be ended. Not that you felt like getting into a hockey discussion with me lol. glad you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI love how exciting it is! Maybe it's because I'm not a huge hockey fan so I don't get really care who wins either way so it's more fun for me.
DeleteI have never been to any old battlefields and after seeing your pictures, the history geek in me wants to go to Gettysburg ASAP. That is so cool that you got to see part of your race course. That always helps relieve some of the race day nerves!!
ReplyDeleteYou would love it Brie!
DeleteWow, I'm glad you had such an awesome weekend. I love the history that is part of our country. I'm so thankful that God gave our forefathers such courage and bravery to fight for freedom.
ReplyDeleteI so want to visit Gettysburg as a history nerd :) I went to ballet camp in Carlisle, PA when I was little but haven't been back to the area since.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely make a trip!
DeleteThat painting is so detailed! Amazing. Glad you two had such a great weekend. I think my ideal day would be to sleep in, get Starbucks, go for a long run, sit on a patio in the sun somewhere with Andrew and have a beer, or by myself with my laptop to write or with a book.
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect!!
DeleteIt sounds like you had such a good weekend. My husbands family is all from Chambersburg so I've been to Gettysburg a few times. I enjoyed my time each time I went too! In upstate NY and college, hockey was huge so I definitely went to several games.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great little town :)
DeleteWhat a fun weekend! All of those dogs are adorable too! My weekend was busy hanging out with family; we tried a new to us brewery which was awesome.
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing! Love visiting breweries.
DeleteWhat a fun weekend! Lily is such a model, golden retrievers are just so pretty and happy all of the time. And your parents' pit bull is so sweet! We went hiking this weekend, out to brunch after church, and then to see a movie at the theater that has an in-house bar. So fun!
ReplyDeleteShe is the sweetest dog!
Deleteawww Lily is so pretty!! what is cosmic bowling?! the dancing to old music definitely sounds more like my kind of time haha
ReplyDeleteCosmic bowling is late at night and has black lights, disco balls, laser lights, and great music! It's basically a party at a bowling alley.
DeleteThe pictures of the dogs are giving me serious puppy envy. Gettysburg is such an interesting town but I have not been there since grade school!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to visit after you move!
DeleteA weekend outside enjoying the beautiful weather with dogs (and family!) sounds perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would love all the dogs :)
DeleteI don't think I've been to Gettysburg (unless as a small child) and it sounds like an interesting place to visit. My husband is an awesome bowler (trophies and everything!) but I never could master it. I can't believe how green the grass is in your pics. Playing with the dogs is a great way to relax. Thanks for linking with us Gretchen.
ReplyDeleteWow that's amazing! Dan used to be on a bowling league and is really amazing!
DeleteThat's a fun weekend! We had our family reunion a few years ago in Gettysburg - it's a neat area to explore. There's certainly a lot of history there! It looks like all of the dogs really enjoyed themselves, as well :) Our one dog will also pose picture perfect every time he spots the camera.
ReplyDeleteAww that's so cute! dogs always brighten up my day :)
DeleteLooks like this post has gone to the dogs! Lol! Sounds like a fun weekend to me! Thanks for linking up!
