Top Five Friday #51

Happy Friday!  Who's excited for the weekend?  I know that I am :)

Today I'm sharing my favorites from the week as always.  Make sure you let me know what you're up to in the comments below, and I'll see you on Monday!

Playoff Time

This is one of my favorite times of the year, because baseball season is starting, while hockey and basketball are in playoffs.  I'm not the biggest hockey fan, but I love following along with playoffs.  The Pens are currently playing the Rangers, while the Flyers' (aka my least favorite team..sorry to any readers from Philly) fans did this.  And, while Pittsburgh doesn't have a professional basketball team, I love following along with those playoff games as well.  It's the best time of the year for a sports fan!

7-Minute Egg

I'm a huge fan of poached eggs, but they're so difficult to make at home that I gave up.  Recently, I discovered the 7 minute egg, which is so easy to make and gives you that same runny yolk that I love.  If you haven't given this method a try, you must!  Here's how I make mine:

Bring a pot of water to a boil, adding in about a tablespoon of vinegar (this helps the shell peel off easily).  You want enough water to barely cover your eggs.

Once the water comes to a rolling boil, add in your eggs gently using a slotted spoon.  Keep the heat up and boil the eggs for exactly 7 minutes, making sure it doesn't boil over.

Once the time is up, carefully dump out the water, and add a tray of ice cubes to the eggs.  This helps to cool them down quickly.

Give the eggs a few minutes to cool, then crack them open (I gently tap the end until it cracks, then use a spoon to peel off the shell).  Add to your dish a slice them open for a yummy and easy meal!

I like adding mine to smoked salmon and spinach, or roasted sweet potatoes and zucchini.  Yum!

Empty Products

Tone Radiant Glow body wash - Good body wash, great smell! 9/10

Bed Head Sugar Shock - Made my hair feel sticky and weighed it down, but it smells amazing.  4/10

Not Your Mother's Plump For Joy - I didn't actually finish this..I accidentally dumped it out when I was cleaning.  It didn't really thicken my hair at all, so I'm glad to throw it out.  1/10

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser - My favorite cleanser!  No scent, nothing special, but cleans my skin without drying it out or breaking me out.  10/10

Pureology Instant Deep- Conditioning Mask - I got this in an Allure beauty box and wouldn't repurchase.  I didn't like the pump design or the scent.  It did a pretty good job at conditioning, but nothing special.  6/10

L'Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray - My all-time favorite setting spray.  SO GOOD!  10/10

Fashion

dress (Gap) x necklace (Limited) x shoes (Target)

This dress is one of my all-time favorites.  I got it for an absolute steal at Gap (I believe it was on the final sale rack for around $7) and it's one of my most-worn dresses.  It's made of a really thick material so it's super flattering, and I can dress it up or down.  Plus- POCKETS!  I've heard that everyone should have a perfect "LBD" and I think this is mine!

I'm excited to start sharing room tours of my house!  I'm starting out with the living room, full of before pictures, projects I want to do, and some inspiration (like the one above, which I'm in love with).

What are your favorites from the week?
Do you have one piece of clothing that you can wear for everything?
Are you a hockey or basketball fan?

  1. I just bought a black dress similar to yours from TJ Maxx. I tried it on and thought it's one of those pieces that could be used for any event or occasion. Love those pieces. I've never been to a hockey game before, but I'd love to go. I wasn't a basketball fan until I met my boyfriend, who's a huge Wichita State Shockers fan, so I'm now a WSU fan by default thanks to him and his family.

  3. Hockey over basketball (for watching in person). But ever since I lost my beloved Thrashers a few years back I have nothing to live for, honestly.

  4. Love that dress! My favorite pieces are black but I really want to get out of the black and grey habit and add more color!

  7. I have a couple of dresses that are my "go to" dresses. I love that dresses allow me to just throw something on quickly and immediately look put together.

  8. Fun recap! I can't say I'm a hockey or basketball fan - eek! I like watching basketball but without a pro team in my city I just don't really get into it anymore. That Gap dress is perfect! Major bonus points for the pockets!

  9. Oh I really love grey and white. And I love that LBD. I used to watch the Canucks but I gave up a couple of years ago. Now they're in the bottom 5 teams of the NHL. UGH.

  10. I tried that Sugar Shock and felt the same way! Love that dress, and I love a $7 steal even more. Love the living room shot too. I watch all the HGTV shows, and I always love the grey and white themed decor. Our house is all color--we have color in every single room and no neutrals--so next on my list is to re-paint it all in grey to go with our white woodwork (and, you know, when I say paint, I mean pay someone else to paint, ha ha!) Happy weekend!

  13. Fun recap! I find myself drawn to so many black pieces, because I feel like black always looks good. Sometimes I have to force myself to buy something in another color of it comes in it that way I don't have a gothic teenager's wardrobe!

  14. I've been getting way too into playoff hockey! The 830 start times make for a late night (for me) especially when they go into overtime haha. I love watching hockey and get way too into it!

  15. I actually just bought that Tone Radiant Glow Body Wash and was not impressed. Maybe it was just my particular bottle, but I found it to be too thin of liquid. I felt like I used a quarter of a bottle each time I washed myself in order to feel actually clean. It was a one and done for me, but maybe it was just mis-manufactured?

I love love love that Gap dress on you. It’s class, has POCKETS, and perfect for pretty much everything.

Hope you have an awesome weekend!
