Seawheeze Half Marathon Training Week 2

It's time for another weekly training recap!  Even though summer doesn't officially start until Tuesday, it definitely felt like summertime temperatures this week.  I might have to start running before work, because it is toasty in the evenings!

This week I had another race, and joined a gym.  Overall it was a great week, and I'm one step closer to race day!

Monday

4 miles
For this run, I just wanted to explore my neighborhood a bit.  I went down some new roads and didn't have a course in mind.  Once I hit two miles, I just turned around and came back.  I didn't run with a watch but I took the run nice and easy.

Tuesday

Rest day!

Wednesday

5 miles
This was a really hot and humid run!  I could feel that it was going to start pouring at any minute (luckily it held off for my run though) so it was a bit of a struggle to get in five miles.  In the middle of the run, I did some strides to get some speed into my legs.

Thursday

3 miles

Another easy run.  I'm going to start incorporating a speed workout during the week starting next week (week 3 of training!). I'm getting a little bored with my same route every day, so I need to change it up and start getting some harder miles in!

Friday

Yoga (45 minutes)
I finally joined a new gym!  This one is near my work, so I'm going to start going in the morning.  On Fridays, there's a yoga class that fits my schedule and I tried it out for the first time this week.  It was a really small class (there were only three of us!) but it was such a great workout.  I'll definitely be back!

Saturday

6 miles / 56:36 / 9:26 pace
I woke up early on Saturday morning to meet up with Jennifer and a local running group to do a trail run.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find the group so I ended up doing five solo miles.  It was such a beautiful day out and I couldn't stop staring at the lake!  I kind of wanted to jump in since it was so sunny and humid out.  Maybe next time!

Sunday

3.1 miles / 25:00 / 8:03 pace
2 mile warm up, 1 mile cool down

Peace, Love, Run 5k!  Recap on Wednesday

How was your week of training?
Is it getting HOT where you are?

  4. Nice speedy time on your Peace Love Run race. I love the shorts that you wore, very cute pattern! I'm finally starting to build my mileage back up for fall races. It's hard with the summer heat so early is always better.

  8. I thought about doing that race! But of course I was like, It's too hot for a race! Yeah, let's try again for a run. The trail we ran on was completely shady, and even the road loop by the pool was shady.

  9. I'm so glad you found a gym! I prefer small yoga classes because then you get extra teacher attention :)

  14. What a great week!
It's definitely getting hot out here in California and I am trying to shift my training around the hottest hours (early morning or more likely evenings) to avoid going to the gym.
