Seawheeze Half Marathon Training : Week 8

Another week bites the dust- and we're one week closer to race day!  All of my long runs and speed work is behind me, and now it's just time to taper.  I can't believe how quickly this training cycle went, and before I know it I'll be in Canada!  I'm so excited to race, but for now let's see how week eight went in training!

Monday

3 miles / 28:10 / 9:23 pace

I didn't sleep well the night before so I skipped the gym in the morning, and took a longer lunch to go running. It's crazy how much better I feel when I run in the morning..I just felt tired and sluggish during lunch! It was better than nothing, and my legs felt surprisingly fresh after my long run on Sunday.

Tuesday

4 miles
I went on a super easy, slow run.  I still was having trouble sleeping (this was the night that I started to take Olly sleeping vitamins which completely turned around my sleep) so this was more like a run/walk.  I was just happy to get the miles in, but it was so slow!

Wednesday

3 miles / 27:08 / 9:02
I was supposed to do 3x1mile repeats, but I was just not feeling it.  Instead, I did a three mile progression run, starting around 10:00 miles and getting down to 8:00 by the end.  It felt good to push the pace, but I was exhausted!

Thursday

REST DAY!

Friday

Morning Yoga
I went to an early morning yoga class before work.  This one is always pretty challenging, so I was tired out by the end!

Saturday

5 miles / 47:15 / 9:26 pace
Early morning run around my neighborhood!  It was humid out, and started to drizzle about halfway through.  It felt pretty good but I would have liked even more rain!  I absolutely love running in runny weather, so the more the better.  This was still a solid run on a hilly course!

Sunday

10 miles / 1:36:28 / 9:38 pace
I got to North Park super early and was one of the only runners there at 6AM!  It was cool and cloudy out, but the humidity was around 100% which made it pretty challenging.  Humidity seems the zap the energy from my legs, so I was struggling on this run!  I pushed through, and made it through the final long run in my half marathon training!  Two weeks until race day!

How's the weather where you are?
Hardest workout you've done recently?
What time do you run on the weekend?

  1. I would say the weather is pretty similar to yours. ;) Haha

I did a 10K trail run on Sunday, but didn't start 'til almost 1030 AM. It was so tough, and despite drinking a full hydration pack during my run, I lost almost THREE POUNDS from start to finish.

6AM on a Sunday is some serious dedication.

    1. That sounds painful! I was so happy to be done even if the humidity was out of control ;)

  2. I totally understand what you mean when you say humidity zaps the energy from your legs…I literally feel like I've got lead in my legs when it's super humid!! Enjoy the taper before the race!!

  3. I basically can only run in the morning. I'm too tired otherwise! I get progressively more tired as the day goes on starting right around lunchtime. Running in the humidity we've been having lately is no joke!

  5. Can't believe the race is almost here! I've enjoyed following your training each week! The humidity kills me too...I was feeling pretty dead on my run on Saturday.

  6. Our weather is nothing but hot and humid for months on end. It's quite the challenge. It sounds like you are more than ready for your half marathon! I hope the weather will be nice for the race. Enjoy your taper. Thanks for linking, Gretchen.

  8. Hope your sleeping is improved- thats rough to get out and exercise when you're exhausted. I haaaate the humidity- I'm just getting back into running after my injury so I'm only running once a week. Can't wait to hear about your time in Canada (both the race and everything else)!

  10. Looks like you had a solid week. The humidity makes my legs feel like lead, too. I love the warmth, though!

  11. I get feeling sluggish when I don't run in the mornings! It just messes up my whole day!
I've been taking a strength/cardio class from a new instructor at my gym and I am loving it. It is very challenging but fun too!
It is very hot and humid here in Mississippi so I always run in the mornings. On Saturdays if I'm in town I'll try and meet up with some friends and we will usually start running between 6 and 6:30 anything after that, it gets to hot the last part of our run!
