A Fresh Start
What a week this has been! We got a new president and vice president, and even though I know things are not going to magically get better in the country overnight it's hard not to feel more hopeful every day. Here's a look at how my week was in workouts-
Monday
45 min Bike Bootcamp with Jess
To be honest, I almost skipped this workout. I just got done painting my basement stairs and was really tired and knew this workout would be tough. But- one of my friends was doing it as well and checked in with me, which motivated me to at least try it. I'm so glad I did because I felt great during this! It was definitely tough, but the class seemed to fly by. I don't know how Jess makes workouts so hard but also enjoyable..she's a magician.
30 min Breathe In, Speak Up Slow Flow with Chelsea
After class I joined this yoga flow in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. It was a really powerful and beautiful class- at the end we stretched and listened to the I Have A Dream speech. I absolutely loved hearing the message and reminder that we all have a part in the fight for equality, and am looking forward to taking Tunde's ride that goes with this class.
Tuesday
20 min Glutes and Legs Strength with Selena
Workout 5 for Selena's lower body challenge! This was really tough, especially after yesterday's bike boot camp. I definitely had to scale down, but still got it done.
30 min Pop Ride with Cody
Super fun class after legs which also helped to shake them out! Today's theme for class was "Basic B**** Bops" which was really fun..pretty much all of those guilty pleasure songs. Took this really easy since my legs were so sore!
10 min Arms Toning with Cody
Finished out with this class- love my workout hour with Cody on Tuesdays! All of the songs were by Latinas which was another fun theme.
Wednesday
4.6 mile Run
Today was the Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, so I had to do 4.6 miles to mark the occasion. I had so much nervous energy all day, and was a mess of emotion after watching the ceremony. I especially loved the poem that Amanda Gorman read- my favorite part was:
We are striving to forge a union with purpose
To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and
conditions of man
And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us
but what stands before us
We close the divide because we know, to put our future first,
we must first put our differences aside
We lay down our arms
so we can reach out our arms
to one another
We seek harm to none and harmony for all
Thursday
30 min Dance Cardio
It's been a WHILE since I've taken the dance cardio classes in Peloton- there were 10 classes released right away and since the shut down there haven't been anymore. But, I decided to take one again and it was so much fun! I added on a warm up and cool down..such a great mid-day workout.
30 min Wicked Ride with Leanne
In the second workout of the Broadway series (first one was Hamilton) we get to ride along to Wicked! This is definitely one of my favorite musicals and I know every song and belted along while I rode. Loved it and I'm hoping that Chicago will be coming soon!
Friday
Flash 15 with Jess
Joined this strength class live as always- after the warm up we did 12 minutes of hard work- minute A was dead lift with a bent over row, minute B was reverse lunge with overhead triceps extension, and minute C was a burpee with devil's press. We did each minute 4 times and increased the number of reps each time! Killer workout!
20 min Wicked Run with Jess King
This run was AMAZING!!! I loved the music so much and Jess did a great job tying the themes in the music and show back to real life. I was having a blast singing along and ended up going an extra mile after the music ended just because I felt so great. It was snowing a bit as well so this run just felt magical.
20 min Year of Yes Ride with Robin
This is now my Friday routine I guess- the Flash 15 in the morning, a run after work, followed by a Year of Yes ride as a cool down. Gets me fired up to chase my dreams and make my weekends meaningful. Perfect combination!
Saturday
20 min 2000s Ride with Alex
It's been a WHILE since I've taken a class with Alex but this one was so fun. I was just going to take it easy but he really pushes you to hit your best every time so this ended up being a great workout! This was also my 150th ride- it seems crazy that I've taken so many classes in just under a year and how much has happened since then! I still remember deciding to get my bike (a Schwinn) and hoping I would use it regularly- guess that was the correct decision because I still LOVE it an use it almost daily.
50 min Reset with Denis
Tried another instructor series- this one is a combination between a ride and yoga class. The first 30 minutes was on the bike, then we transitioned to the floor for yoga. I thought that the two classes would flow together or be integrated, but to me it felt like two completely separate workouts which was a little disappointing.
Sunday
20 min Hip Hop Fun Run with Robin
This run was definitely fun- so many good songs from Nelly to Childish Gambino! It was freezing cold out (in the 20s) but I got it done.
