Excitement

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend- mine was pretty fun and exciting because I had some visitors come for the first time since we moved. We had a great week and weekend, with even more fun planned for this week. Here's a look at how my workouts went!

Monday

30 min Pride Run with Jess King

Today I turned 31, so I decided to run 3.1 miles to "celebrate". I headed out first thing in the morning and put on this fun playlist that I've been saving! I finished my goal at the Starbucks by my place to grab my birthday drink (venti salted caramel cold foam cold brew...very good) and walked back with Dan and Selma. Perfect start to the day.

3 mile Hike

After work, Dan and I headed to William B. Umstead State Park, which I've been SO excited to visit! We parked at the Sycamore lot, then headed down the multi-use trail until we hit the creek, and hiked back on Sycamore trail. The hike wasn't too strenuous or hilly, but the views along the way were so beautiful. Trees and ferns were everywhere, as well as pretty creeks and bridges. There were people out running and biking and I definitely will be back to try more trails and visit the lakes as well. This was a great beginner hike if you're looking for a fun one, plus you'll get to see the famous log art (above!)

Tuesday

15 min Arms and Shoulders Strength with Adrian

It's been a long, long time since I've done a strength class, so I got a few friends to take this one live with me. It helped knowing that I wasn't doing it alone, because this class was TOUGH. My arms have always been pretty weak, and without doing classes pretty much all month I could definitely feel them working!

Wednesday

4 mile Run

Opted to take this one on the treadmill so that I could watch Wimbledon (and also stay a little cooler). Started out at 5.5 MPH and slowly increased my speed until I was at 7.0, then cooled down to finish out.

Thursday

10 min Focus Flow : Hips with Aditi

I have not been great about yoga lately, so I made sure to get this in first thing in the morning. I always love hip classes and I felt like I especially needed this after my run.

20 min 90s Pop Ride with Bradley

Hopped on this class at lunch and it was a really fun playlist! Lots of throwbacks from my childhood and Bradley is such a fun instructor.

Friday

10 min  Yoga Flow with Denis

This class was way harder than I expected when it was a "beginner" class- it was almost half just doing side lunges and my legs were screaming at me! Not exactly the best class to start off the day, but I adjusted a bunch and made it my own.

20 min Hip Hop Run with Rebecca

Mid day run and it was the first day that I actually felt great running outside! It always takes a few weeks for me to acclimate to summer running and I think I crossed that threshold today. I did this playlist and then added on a little extra to go a little over 3 miles.

Saturday

Lots of Walking!

My family is in town visiting, so we spent all day exploring Apex and Cary with lots of walking. One of the highlights was taking the trail around Historic Yates Mill- such a beautiful area and the weather was perfect.

Sunday

More Exploring

Another day spent exploring around- this time in downtown Raleigh. We visited some museums, had some BBQ and coffee, and then went to a brewery. Dan and I also rented scooters to get around downtown a little faster which was fun!

  1. Happy belated birthday. You and I have the same ritual... I go for my birthday run and then pick up my birthday drink at Starbucks (even though I am usually not a frequent Starbucks customer).

Sounds like you had a great week!

    1. Thank you!! And same for me..the last time I went to a Starbucks was my last birthday haha. Went a bit more often when I worked downtown and would go with coworkers, but a local coffee shop is always better!

  2. Yay for visitors and exploring! So much fun. Hope you're still acclimated to the heat! I have never gotten my free birthday drink at Starbucks. Hm. I might need to do that! Hope you're still enjoying learning about your new community.
