July Highlights and Goals

I'm a little late with my post this month- to be honestly I've been so sucked in with the Olympics lately that everything else has kind of gone out the window! I got really into rugby last week, and now this week it's all about track and field, the finals for team sports (soccer and volleyball and basketball). I also really liked kayak cross- if I could see myself competing in any Olympic sport it would probably be that one!

In August I have some exciting plans that I can't wait to share in next month's recap, as well as another sprint tri to prepare for my big Olympic distance tri in October. It's going to be a busy month! But for now, let's recap my goals. To be honest, there wasn't a lot of movement, but I'm hoping to change that this month.

Fitness

ANNUAL GOAL: Try a new class each month.
This month I tried out Kick and Burn at my local gym. It was a kick boxing class and was pretty tough and left me really sore afterwards. I also tried out a program in the Apple Fitness app which has been a lot of fun to use!

Personal

ANNUAL GOAL: Phone free day monthly.
I mentioned that I deleted Instagram off my phone, which is still going strong. I also set a time limit for TikTok, which really makes me realize how much time I can waste on that! It's set for 30 minutes per day, and it really goes by quickly. I think having that has helped a lot!

Family

ANNUAL GOAL: Date night every month
. This was probably Dan's favorite date that I picked so far- we stayed in for a video game night. We played Mario Kart and Mario Party, and also had some pizza and beers. It was very low key but lots of fun!

Fun

Read best fiction of 2023.

This month I finished the top 10 fiction books from Goodreads (and actually a few others on the list that sounded good). Out of the top 10 I think my favorite was The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer, or Maame by Jessica George. Further down the list at #14, The Celebrants by Steven Rowley was one of my favorite books of the entire year!

ANNUAL GOAL: Monthly cooking challenge. My cuisine for the month was Middle Eastern, and I made some really tasty food! I actually forgot to write down the names of the recipes that I tried, but there was Shakshuka, roasted beets with labneh, and crispy potatoes with a chimichurry. Everything was so flavorful and pretty easy to make so this was another winner.

How was your month?
